Internet explorer 9

Hello folks

I was in India last week and whilst there had a notification that an update to Internet explorer 9 was recommended. I proceeded to install it and whilst it has a different layout seems to work fine. However the icon on start up now says "the Internet". Have I been the victim of a good scam or does this update exist. Neither my wife or daughters laptops have been "offered" this update.

Any help or comments on this would be appreciated.

William

As far as I can tell there have not been any updates to IE9 since the 18th March.

My version is 9.0.8112.16421 last update ver KB982861 (my OS is windows 7 64 bit, there may be a different v number for 32 bit.)

edited to add: it was actually installed on the 30th March on my system.

Tools: 'About Internet explorer' shows the same details on my machine (Win 7 32 Bit).

It only works with...

...Vista and Win 7.

If wife and daughter have XP (I'm assuming a Windows environment) they won't get the offer. IE8 for the loved ones, or FF, Chrome, et al.

My Version as GG.

Was on the Toshiba help line yesterday and advised to steer clear of IE9 until some problems were sorted out, apparently it still has bugs?

Wouldn't let me enter a computers details on a web page, no problem in IE8, (OS Windows7).

I have 'upgraded' to IE9 on my laptop when it was offered, which is Vista, and had no problems so far. The upgrade has not been offered so far, on my desktop which is XP.

When I tried to download IE9 for XP was told it was not compatible with my OS.

That's because it isn't. How do I install or uninstall Internet Explorer 9?
