overseas calls

has anyone in australia been getting overseas calls and the person knows your name and asks about your own computer and what system you have win 7, xp etc etc. iv been getting these calls at least once a week, but they dont last long as the time delay in the call is really bad so the guy gives up and hangs up.. been told he wants me to get on computer and give him vital data that will allow him to have access to my personal data.. has anyone heard of this??

Look in the forum archives, it's been done to death on multiple occasions.

Rule one, never give any information to a cold caller.

These guys will install a nasty on the puter, then charge to remove it. (and probably sell you card info as well)

Had a series a few months ago; eventually said to MrsJim 'off camera' "Get that Microsoft number on the other line please dear, he's back again."

Click from the other end. Never had any more calls from 'im.

Just recently I've found that it can be very therapeutic to actually tell unsolicited callers on the phone to "phuck off".

Caller blaa blaa blaa

Me "Why are you calling a TPS listed number?"

caller "It doesn't apply to us"

Me "Well you should still use it because people who register do so because they don't want talk to prats ~~(or stronger) like you" And then put the phone down.
