Not-so-hot "hot threads"

What's the definition of a "hot thread"? I've seen a number of threads of this forum marked "hot" that haven't had any new posts for many days. How can this be explained?

This forum is run on vBulletin software, therefore, from the vBulletin Manual

Code:
--- Hot Threads Enabled Hot threads indicate threads with a lot of activity.
--- Hot Threads Qualifying Views If 'Hot Threads' are enabled, threads with the specified number of views or more will be shown as hot.
--- Hot Threads Qualifying Posts If 'Hot Threads' are enabled, threads with the specified number of posts or more will be shown as hot.
