Drive not detected

Nice new shiny 1.5 gig Samsung SATA. Visible in BIOS. Windows 7 put up the 'I've found new hardware... disk drive... Samsung drive ready for use' popups, but...
Doesn't appear in 'My computer'.

Even booted from my XP disk - same story.

I'm running out of ideas: hesitant to believe it's a duff disk, but not much left.

Unless one of you wonderful people knows differently?

initialise it in disk management.

Mind you 1.5GB is a bit small these days.
