Should they have released this this way?

In my opinion, absolutely not. What good is served by doing so, except to stroke the ego of the author?

Widely accepted, industry wide, that public zero day exploits disclosures are harmful.

How would Google have reacted if Microsoft had published a Google 0-day ?

Yup - bad move on Google's part.
