It really is too much!!

I have a nice Samsung R610 laptop which has not given me any trouble until yesterday. It loads and plays bluray DVDs, ordinary dvds, newish cds, I can even burn DVDs, but it wont load one of my favourite Cds Simply Red Greatest Hits which is about 7 years old. Nor will it load any Cd from that era.

I called the Samsung help desk and the very nice man told me it was a registry problem and guided me through the process of deleteing a key using regedit. It had no effect at all and infact it has screwed up my itunes software as it asks me to reinstall it everytime I open it up. The very nice man then told me that the drive was probably broken and should get it repaired.

I've tried updating drivers, firmware ccleaned it, and used registry mechanic and nothing works.

Any ideas?
