E mail Hijacked

My hotmail has been hijacked by scammers, who are now using it to send spam to everyone in my address book. How do u close a hotmail acc down, or is there any other way to stop this happening. Not fussed about losing the acc, to much bloody junk mail comes into it anyway. tried to get a response from hotmail HQ, but nothing yet!
Cheers
CB

Hi CB,

Source email address spoofing is very common in the spamming world, and not much you can do about it.

Ref:

and
Not fussed about losing the acc

Am I missing something obvious ? How about just abandoning it and leaving it for dead ? I believe Hotmail do a regular spring cleaning, and any accounts that have not been logged into for X days get deleted.

Update:
Alternatively, if you had googled "close hotmail account", you would have found this three step process on the Microsoft site:

Account Closure - Hotmail Account

CathayBrat

I had a similar problem (reported in full in another thread) but wondered
since it was sending inbounds to and could be accessed from my I phone
whether the scammer obtained my password from that link?
