type of file for dvd back up

Going through my dvd collection and backing up on to 500gb hard drives (wd passport) to play on Wd hd tv. At the moment using iso or vob files but takes up alot of space what type of file should i use don't want to lose quality picture or sound been played back on 46 " lcd tv

The only option is to convert the files but that generally takes ages - it depends on the specs of your computer. There are paid options which are better supported and more user friendly but there are also free alternatives. A google search for video conversion software will bring up results for both. If you have enough room for the .vob files I wouldn't bother converting.
