MS Net frameworks various
Trying to 'catch up' on MS Updates on No2 son's machine following major virus surgery plus update to SP3. He has net Fr 1.1 and 2. I have downloaded 3.5 and installed now. Can I remove 1.1 and 2? We cannot get a 'required' update to 1.1 or 3.5 to install properly.
I see Aaaron Stebner has a clever programme for sorting out issues here.
I also appear to have net 1.1, 2, 3 AND 3.5 (greedy!) Do I keep them all or what do I need to do? WHY do they not uninstall old before updating to a newer version?
I see dire Google warnings about some 'registration cache' issues too, which go over my head!
A 'security update' to SP3 is also failing. Is this associated?

I had a mix of versions on my XP Pro setup (I remember 1.1, and something in the 3. series). I never worried about 'em.
I was very careful to prevent XP SP3 from installing, having heard horror stories about it.
XP Pro has gone now - both Windows machines are on Win 7 and working fine.

RE net frameworks - the MS advice I have now found is to keep all from 1.1 upwards as various programmers will have used various frameworks to write their stuff.
