Windows 7 (& Vista) 32-bit God mode

As reported everywhere else but not here, if you have trouble scouring the nooks and crannies for all your Windows 7 settings and would like them in one place, try this:

1) Create a new folder anywhere.

2) Rename it to GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Only the part within brackets is important. Don't try this on any 64-bit version of Windows. E&OE, own risk, etc.

It's like System.ini and Win.ini all rolled into one!

Mixture.

It doesn't do anything. Essentially, it's a collection of shortcuts in one place. It's not a "GodMode", some prannick added that to create FUD and nor is it something hidden. The ability to do this is a standard part of Windows and is nothing more than a convenience feature. The cool thing about it is that it gathers together many shortcuts which are otherwise buried behind several mouse clicks - if you can remember where they are!

You can also get exactly the same functionality in Vista and Win 7 simply by typing what you are looking for into the search bar on the Start button.

You could call the folder minionmode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} and it would still work.

Cheers

I only called it "God mode" here since that's the easiest way to Google for more information about it. As Simonta (and I) said, only the bit within brackets is important.

Just do it in a user mode and not admin and it can't do anything

It's a Control Panel

I think you'll find it is just a different way of displaying the Control Panel. If you like stuff in lists (I do) then this is for you. Ed Bott, the well-known Windows expert, published an article on it a couple of days ago. Deleted the article fm my email, so no link. Sorry.

This is very cool. I look forward to trying it on my work computer next week and then showing up the IT department if they haven't done something to prevent it!

How to make friends and influence people in IT. !!!!

It won't get you past any policies that they have implemented its just collection of shortcuts which bypass having to use the control panel.

Would be interesting to see what it produces when you do it on a server.

Yes, using it. On my PC and Laptop it's called BossMode.
It's a convenient way of having all that stuff in one place.
