Log In Problems

After about two dozen attempts to log in I seem finally to be able to post. Every previous time over the last two days I have logged in with my username and password, then been taken to a page where I am asked to enter a series of letters and figures, which I do. Having done this I am thanked for logging in and taken to the original page that informs me I am not logged in and am only viewing the forum as a guest! Clicking on the bit that says I can "Go Here" if I am having trouble logging in does nothing to help, merely resulting in a small sign telling me the page is not available.

It is most frustrating and even though I seldom have anything to say on this forum, it would be nice to have the opportunity to say my piece when I do have words of wisdom to dispense.

Please can somebody sort out this annoying problem.

Log In Problems

Sorry to harp on this but no sooner had I managed to post the above than I found I had been logged out. After only three attempts I have got back in but assume it won't be long before something else goes wrong.

Please, somebody with expertise in the machinations of these computing machines, do something.

Thank you.

These problems are almost invariably down to browser problems or security settings.

Clear cookies from PPRUNE, remove objects from PPRUNE in your browser cache (or just clear the cache completely).

Ensure that you are accepting cookies.

If you are not using a shared computer you can consider using the "remember me" function when logging in.

Log In Problems

Thank you Saab Dastard, your advice seems to have solved the problem. I have twiddled with some of the settings behind the scenes on my computing machine and am now able to log in without any trouble. However, there must have been some changes made to PPRUNE as I have always been able to log in until now.

Thanks again for your help.

Glad to be able to help.

There may well have been changes to PPRUNE behind the scenes, but I have no more visibility of them than you do.

IB now own PPRUNE, and there is a major division between mods and admins (IB).

Usually the first we mods hear about any changes is when things stop working properly!

Sign in ok, BUT

Sign in ok every time. But when I want to post a reply to a thread I have to sign in again and again. It happened today 7 times so I went back to my original post, Re-previewed and posted it. But it didn't come up as the last post !!!!!
This happens to me all the time when I want to post a new thread, post a reply.
What's happening. I'll try this time and see what happens.
Thanks

This was happening to me a few weeks ago when I started using a "new" computer for my primary internet work; the symptoms were almost identical. I had composed a letter to this worthy column, but since it was also happening to a few other auto login sites, there had to be some other factor unique to my (new) system.

Eventually I traced it to a setting in my security suite (CA) which was (apparently) default programmed to remove cookies immediately upon use (it's well disguised under the Privacy settings). I removed the tick from the box and the problem disappeared.

It seem likely that a similar little helpful "feature" in your machine/software combination may be responsible in the same way. Persist, hang in there. There has to be an answer somewhere . After all we are working with the new unknown here - computers and software - much more complicated than flying!

Regards,
