Initial magnification of file upon opening

Does anyone know if you can pre-set the magnification of MS Office and Adobe files when you open them? It is so annoying when documents open at 210% or whatever. I believe it relates to the state of the file when it was last saved but surely there must be defaults in the MS and Adobe programs that I just cannot track down.

A minor annoyance in the great scheme of things but it bloody irritates me none the less.

Thanks in advance for any tips.
