Adding different user

I decided to add one more user on my computer and I like to make firefox and openoffice.org available to both users (the old and new ones). And also how can I share documents like text and pictures?

How can I do it?

for XP start > control panel > user accounts assuming you have admin privilege in your PC, else just contact your admin. To share docs and pics, put the files in a folder usually named "Shared Folder", if the machine is networked, contact your admin for the exact path.

Have you actually carried out C-N's instructions ?

When you add a new user, all software installed in standard locations is automatically available, you have no choice over what is shared.... so firefox, openoffice and whatever other software you have installed will be available.

If it's Windows you're talking about then that is wrong.

Whether a new user sees the installed software or not depends on whether the software was originally installed "for all users" or "just for me". Any decent installer gives the user that choice. It's possible that firefox and openoffice in particular have craply written installers and don't give that choice, but your "whatever other software" is definitely completely wrong.

Gertrude,

I know. But in this instance, I took the chance that this would not apply for the software he mentioned (I haven't used openoffice much, but certainly in terms of Firefox installs that I've seen, I believe the default setting is for all users).

Many many thanks for all the answers. It works with both firefox and openoffice. It might require some fine tuning but I think it is ok.

Good luck with it.

Probably the thing that will need tuning most are your file sharing permissions to limit access appropriately.
