Wordpad problem , Wins. xp Home

Help!!!

I have a problem reading a Wordpad Doc sent as an attachment
to a received e-mail.

I am running Windows XP Home, which I gather is limited to Ser.Pack3
with Adobe reader 8

Am I right in asuming the problem may be that I need to have
Adobe Reader 9, in turn linked to Servicepack 4 which is not supported in XP Home

Is there a "Simple" way I can open this Wordpad doc??

With many thanks for any help on this query.

Why not use Wordpad? It's in the accessories part of the program menu.

Or double click on the doc and select wordpad from the 'open with' options.....................................or am I missing something?

Nothing to do with Adobe - Wordpad ships with XP, so I can only assume that you have a file type association problem if it doesn't launch automatically.

Wordpad is in Programs / Accessories (or should be).

Also, the SP level of XP has nothing to do with what version of Adobe Acrobat (PDF) reader you have installed.

Thanks for reply

Thanks for the feedback.

I omitted to add that I noticed Wordpad in Prog listing under Accessories.
I had there assumed I have a secondary problem as to why I can not
open a Wordpad Attachment .

Its back to the drawing board I think.

It is a very important Attachment so a friend of mine (Bit of a Computer whizzkid) help me over the phone.
I had to forward him the E-mail, he opened the attachment and Copy/Pasted it and E-mailed the "opened" message back to me.
So I got there in the end.

Again with thanks,

OPF

Follow Up, I did It!!!!!!

Not one to give in, I still tried for myself to crack this problem.

Did It!!!!!

More by luck than judgement.

Opened original e-mail with Wordpad Attachment.
Right clicked on "Download File".
Clicked on "Save Target As.. " (Thought it worth a try!!!!)
Saved in My Docs,, "All Files"

In My Docs under "Properties"
"Opens With" changed to Adobe Reader 8.1, from Wordpad.

(At one stage not sure now when, in My Docs, had to "Unlock" the file)

Then able to "Open" the file and there was the full Message.
Printed off ok.

Pleased but a little bemused by the vagories of my Laptop, its getting on a bit ,like me!!!!!

OPF - can you find the original attachment and post here its 'extension'? (The letters after the "." in its name). Sounds odd.

Just to keep this alive, OPF says there was 'nothing' after the "." on the attachment?? As far as I know this will prompt windows to ASK which programme to open it with?

Certainly Wordpad will open such a TEXT file but Adobe of course will not. My initial guess was that maybe it had been a '.wpd' file - ie 'Wordperfect'.
