Re-Numbering of Posts in Moderated PPRuNe Threads

Question for PPRuNe lords and masters. In a heavily moderated thread - such as the current AF 447 - when a post is deleted by the mods, all subsequent posts are renumbered. So if post 512 is deleted, post 513 now becomes 512....

Is it possible - perhaps even desirable - to maintain the original post numbers, for ease of user reference? So, if post 512 is deleted, then the visible sequence just goes 511, 513...

Although there is a Permanent Link option available, many posters refer to something in a numbered previous post - but that number very often changes within a hour or so of it being posted.

The forum software is not custom written for pprune - it is open source BBS software being re-used. Such a change would require re-programming of the queries to the MySQL database from the PHP code.

Jofm5,

The Vbulletin software is not open source, it is owned and licensed out by Jelsoft - who also happen to be owned by Internet Brands, who own the PPRuNe website.

So, within the software, do the Mods have a "reset / don't reset numbering" option when they delete posts? If they do have such an option, is there some particular argument for having it set, as now, as "reset"?
