Anyone had a problem with KB967715?

This update has installed iiself 4 times on my XP machine, each time successfully, but is still insisting that it needs to be installed again. I've googled it and it looks like other people have had a similar problem, but I was wondering if anyone here has had first hand experience of this and knows how to stop it hassling me?

Yes I use XP, I have had four as well. (One each day) I went to "control panel" ,"updates", and changed the "auto updates" to "Advise me when there is an update" The update is on Microsoft's update site but like you I suspect that there is a problem with it. Until I am sure this is not something sinister my settings remain as above.

Ironically it's an update to enable turning off the autorun facility, presumably to help defeat the Confiker worm.

Thanks Tarq now got 12 of them!! Downloaded KB953252 which does the same job as KB967715 then deleted KB967715 from programs and files. On restarts now KB967715 is not appearing nor any requests to download it. Will check over the next few days to see if it has stopped replicating itself.
I Googled "fix for KB967715" an awful lot of XP people not amused. Very quiet on the MS front.

I am running XP Pro on one of my PC's and had a problem with a couple of updates after they had succesfully loaded themselves half a dozen times (took me a while to realise it was the same one each time!) I followed the instuctions I found in Windows help:
Next time the update icon appears right click and open the check 'manual install' which will then allow you to see which updates are attempting to load, check or uncheck as required, check the one that's giving you the trouble uncheck all the others (if there are any) then check the box at the bottom of the window which says hide this update. You'll never hear from the pesky blighter again (unless you want to which you can).

KB967715 fix

The following is extracted from the Microsoft web site for KB 967715, not surprisingly it actually works.

I suggest that once you boot in Safe Mode you go to Add Remove programs first, check the Show Update button, find the KB967715 installation and Remove it. You can ignore the warning about programs that may not work. Then follow the instructions below:-

Update 967715 is reoffered multiple times

Update 967715 may be reoffered if the HonorAutorunSetting registry setting that is described in this article is not added to the registry hive. This issue may occur if some other program that is installed on the computer blocks the update from writing the registry entry. Such software may block the update during the installation of the update or may remove the registry entry after the computer is restarted.

To resolve this problem, install the update in safe mode. To do this, follow these steps:
Download the update. To do this, follow these steps:
Visit the Microsoft Download Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads (Microsoft Download Center)
In the Search for a download box, type the number of the Knowledge Base article that describes the update, and then click Go.
Download the update, and then save it to the desktop.



Restart the computer.
As the computer starts, press the F8 key.
Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.

(when started, go to Control Panel > Add Remove Programs and Remove KB967715, you should reboot back into safe mode after this)

Double-click the file that you downloaded in step 1 to install the file.
When the installation is complete, restart the computer.
Visit the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web site to determine whether the update is offered. Or, wait until Automatic Updates runs again. ( just try shutting down again)


It works for me.
