Bluetooth stacks

I'm running a Vaio SZ1 with WinXP at the mo which has the toshiba bluetooth stack on it. Now a while back, I reformatted and re-installed windows, and re-installed drivers. The Toshi bluetooth software I now have is out of date, but the toshiba website won't let you have a new copy unless you're running actual toshiba hardware, and the vaio update thing is pants.

Toshiba bluetooth stack isn't so great anyhow, (I have issues with PAN'ing with my phone, which needs to work!) and I was wondering, is it possible to just grab a better stack (I've heard widcomm or similar is good) and install it in lieu of the toshi one?
