Ripping DVD to Ipod Classic

Ladies and Gents,

my darling daughter has received an Ipod Classic for Christmas and what a great little toy it is too. I have no problem with the idea of buying new music from iTunes rather than on CD and she already has an extensive collection of MP3 music that she has ripped from her own (purchased) CDs, which we have managed to add to her iPod with no problems. She has also downloaded a few new movies from the iStore and paid to do so. However, I resent the idea of her paying to download movies that we have already purchased. I have searched the sticky in this forum listing free websites and could find nothing to help, but am a tad slow when it comes to search methods therefore I apologise in advance if I have missed something.

My question is: Is there a free, or reasonable priced, reliable and simple piece of software to rip DVD Films to play on an Ipod. If so, does anyone actually know what the UK law says about copying your own, legally purchased DVDs, for personal use (and definately not for sharing).

Like many aviation households, our DVDs have a mix of different regions and I believe that the law in the USA is quite draconian about copying, so even just a UK region only fix would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance (on behalf of little Nato Potato)

Stuff the yanks, you're not in America. The industry lawyers over there are currently bending over backwards to convince the courts the the sky is green, grass is blue etc...

Watching movies on an iPod isn't my idea of fun, but I've seen this do a pretty good job of things for some family members. You can download a trial version and judge for yourself.

Thank you all very much for the prompt ideas guys. I have now found the solution and will crack on and start converting (once teenage Darling Daughter finally gets up!).

Pprune is fantastic, I posted before going to bed and had the answer waiting for me when I logged on after breakfast.

Happy new year to you all.
