Tip & Reminder

One of my XP-SP3 machines started coughing and spluttering a week or so ago - you know, random errors, reboots and bluescreens, sometimes not wanting to boot.

At first I didn't get excited - Windows has these little fits from time to time and rather than start poking around immediately its often better to wait and see if it goes away.

Well, it didn't. A lot of the boxes I keep an eye on are Macs or Linux which just tick on steadily so I haven't done troubleshooting for a while.

Pulled the memory cards, gave the contacts a wipe with circuit cleaner, reseated 'em and end of problem. One forgets these things.

Spoke too soon. Ooopsies continued after a brief respite.

Put in a new power supply and uptime now 3 days so that's nailed it.

Ho hum.....
