I've used chrome for the simple fact that it was a lot faster.
Guess google are eating there words claiming it was the the safest web browser. The google logo should be themed to them blushing!

IE6 vs. Google Chrome
I run WIN 2000 on one of my computers for a variety of reasons.
Some of the pages I visit advise that they will shortly dump support for IE6 and suggest, along with other options, that I start using Google Chrome.
I have heard mixed reports. Can anybody give me any pointers here ?

Thanks for the due diligence GG.
A lot of the info was out of date,(12 months) due to updates being made.
A lot of the info was wooly.
A proportion of it indicated that it might not be the best option.
Is there anyone out there right now who is using this App with some success.

One advantage of firefox is the amount of addons available such as no script and addblocker etc there is an excelent one called IEtab which allows you to open a web site using the IE engine.

I'll NEVER use Google Chrome or any other product from Google other than (occasionaly) their search engine.
They know too damn much already, f* em.
Stick with IE if you're so inclined, wont kill anyone, except the obsessed fan-boy who sees IE6 in his log files and goes berserk.
An excellent small footprint browser is Opera. Built in,you can block adverts, disable Javascript for only trusted sites and block plugins as well (the great vector for most hackers)
Firefox I use, mostly for the plugins and such, but Opera uses far less memory and will perform better on win 2000

W2k is listed as a valid operating system for chrome, at least that is what it says on the tin !!
The reason for shifting from IE6 is that some utilities are flashing up the message that they will soon stop supporting it, whatever that means.
Although I use several machines for my work, I never delve too deeply. In other words if a programme works, I use it.
Regarding Firefox, am I right to assume that it is simply a browser similar to IE6 and can be used alongside if necessary ?

Yes just download and install it, it will happily sit alongside IE, or any other browser. You use as you would IE and you can import you favourites into it from IE (you will be asked if you want to do this when you install it)
Having tried Chrome and decided I did not like it - I uninstalled it.
However, it left some registry entries that prevented me from using links from within Outlook, Word and Excel.
Fortunately, for me, a lot of others had been caught by the same problem and a google search found the cure.

Ive been using Chrome for a while now and only after upgrading my home PC and laptop to Windows7, and NOT being able to use Chrome, have I realised how clunky and slow every other browser is!
I used to love Firefox, but after being forced to use it whilst I figure out how to get Chrome working, its just awfull - exactly like every other browser, especially now that its getting a bit bloated in its more up to date version.
Im very much looking forward to trying Chrome OS, although if I cant use it to play Football Manager and Falcon4 I wont be using it long!

Google Chrome browser
Has anyone tried Google Chrome browser, and if so how have you got on with it? I expect it has alot of tracing your browsing habits, and collecting of information about you. But does that make it a pain to use, or does it affect the operation of other stuff on your computer or is it unintrusive? I'm curious as I've seen quite alot of advertising about it recently. I currently use Safari on a Windows XP laptop.

Love - instant start up and very nippy browsing that make IE and Firefox look lead booted
Dislike - I cannot suppress adverts without running as a proxy service which I don't want to do
Result - Anywhere with a fast broadband connection without metered usage I use Chrome and live with the ads. Anywhere else I use Firefox.
