Question FS2k

Just upgraded from FS98 to FS2k Pro. Framerate on my system (Celery 400, Matrox G400, 256Mb) is fine at 1024x768x32 - surprisingly good, in fact - but the graphics seem to pause for a couple of seconds from time to time while the aircraft keeps flying. Most of the time it doesn't much matter, but it's enough to turn your carefully timed flare into a stall, which is irritating.

As far as I can tell there isn't a pattern. It just happens. I've just been doing local flying around EGHR, which looks surprisingly like home (I'm impressed!), so I wouldn't have thought it is pausing to load new scenery or anything like that. Anyone got any ideas?

As an aside, anyone know where to get a halfway decent PA-28 for FS2k?

Cheers!

Evo:

For some quite good PA 28's try or www.simviation.com or www.flightsim.com

You have to register with the latter one, but its free and afterwards its a very good site.

Hope this helps,

PilotEddy

The 'fault' you describe is usually because your frame rate is either too low, or your image settings are set too high and the scenery re-writing can't catch up. It is a known issue and you can get the updates from Microsoft which will in all probability solve it.

But then again, FS2002 comes out in October and it miles superior to FS2k and the frame rates are top of the shop. I will be dumping my FS2k.

Thanks chaps.

Guess I should have waited a couple of months, huh? Figured that if running FS2k was going to be marginal on my system I had no chance with FS2002.

Odd frame rate problem though. Most of the time it is fine (20-25fps).

20-25fps! Your own eyes work at around 25fps. FS2k suffers from low frame rates. Even my 533 CPU, GeForce 256 and 256mb of ram can't change it - it stays at 20-25fps with the occasional 55fps depending on what a/c I use. Whereas FS98 goes off the clock at 99fps!

FS2002 has consistent frame rates of 55+fps and will work fine with a 450mhz CPU. This is the info that came back from MS when top flight simmers visit them.

I don't bother with them now. I will wait for FS2002.

Just thought I would get this URL so you can get a taste. Enlarge the pics and see the superb changes. http://www.microsoft.com/games/fs2000/fs2002.asp
