Recently updated Netscape from 4.77 to 4.78. The stalled page problem is almost gone (it has happened only once since, nowhere near as often as before). More important, it recovers where it would not before, i.e. after it happens, I can still open other pages successfully. So for all practical purposes, it is fixed.

But why does Mac have ONLY 5% of the computer market?

And who owns Mac? Isn't it the one who has hinges to open his name?

I've tried Mac and it makes me cringe, so I guess it's each to his own!

Well PPRuNe Pop

The reason why Mac only has 5% of the PC market is steeped in history.

20 years ago, the then largest player in the computer world (IBM) decided to enter the PC market. They used an operating system called DOS which was very cheap and user unfriendly and written by a guy called Bill Gates. Unfortunately for us all, Mr Gates retained copyright.

Due to Big Blue's domination of the industry, DOS became the standard. People using DOS would look down their noses at the Mac with it's graphical user interface, 3.5 inch floppies and mouse. If you didn't have to type a command with a C, three backslashes and a couple of colons you were scum.

Meantime Mac users became productive instead of faffing about trying to get a program to run.

Mr Gates with his royalty money then developed Windows. This was to the Mac as the stonewheeled cart is to the Space Shuttle. But the standard was set, and Apple due to overpricing of a superior product became sidelined.

Widows has continued to develop and is now almost in the premier league of operating systems. (but not quite)

The price we pay for this is having to do everything Microsoft's way. They now have a virtual monopoly except in the creative industry and we pay through the nose for it.. Our language and culture is becoming Americanised as this is the Gates way. Many superior software houses have been sunk by the mighty guns of Microsoft and of course they are now subject to anti-trust hearings in the US.

It's big, but it aint clever.

The only brightness on the dark Microsoft horizon is Macintosh which is still thriving and Larry Ellison of Oracle who is committed to the downfall of Microsoft.

You'll be relieved to hear that Tricky Woo, International IT & Banking Consultant, couldn't bear to be parted from his iMac.

Did I mention that my iMac is blue?
