wireless problem.. please help
i know i am new here but i really need a quick fix. I just installed a wireless router (linksys) and my compaq, Windows XP O.S, notebook is running fine with it.. internet is up everything is fine until i try to sign in to something such as yahoo, hotmail, gmail, ebay.. as soon as i try to login the "internet connection lost" page comes up and wont display it. Everything else is working fine except for when i try to login somewhere. Please help, thank you.

So, you have a problem with SSL (https) connections. If you're using Internet Exploder, have a look in Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN Settings. Check all those boxes are unchecked. If you have mistakenly configured a proxy for HTTP only (and not configured for HTTPS), this behaviour would occur.
Other test - open a command prompt (start/run/cmd) and type:
telnet signin.ebay.com 443
If the Window goes blank, you've just connected on the SSL port and the problem is browser related, not network related. If it hangs and says "timed out", your problem is network related, not browser related.
See how you get on with those for starters....

When you say "wireless problem", does this behaviour only happen over a wireless connection, or is it the same when you connect using copper cable?
Good tip there from Shunter - will sort network / firewall problems from browser problems.
Check your firewall settings, both on the Linksys and the Windows Firewall.
"Out of the box", both should support SSL on port 443, so restoring defaults should work.
Other browser things to check:
If you are using a proxy, ensure that the proxy is set to "use for all protocols".
Under Tools / Internet options is the Security tab - have you (or any installed programs) made any changes here to the Internet Zone? Try resetting to default (Medium High), or add the sites to your Trusted Zone.
Similarly, if you (or any installed programs) have made any changes to the Advanced Settings tab, you can Restore Defaults - and if all else fails, you can Reset the entire Browser (at least you can in IE7).

Good tips abov mrgrey.
I will point out that on my linksys router (wrt54G), when occasionally doing a reset, the https settings box is not always checked. Go to your router setup pages through your browser (on mine its - 192.168.1.1 / administration / management) and see if the https box is checked.
Might be as simple asd that. Good luck.
