Unhappy More Computer Help Req'd

Hello All,

Once again the computer numpty needs some help in running his life.

In order to stop 'them' getting me, like evryone else I've got my top secret name at Bigfoot.com. Okay, I managed that bit and they are happily forwarding any mail from PPrune to my 'real' address.

Now, I've had a couple of questions asked of me (privately) but via the 'E-mail' function in PPrune and I'd like to respond but retain my anonimity. If I simply press the 'Reply' button then the receiver gets my 'real' name and address (not desired).

I've been 'into' Bigfoot and I can't find an E-mail facility anywhere (so I can reply using [email protected]). Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong and, more importantly, how I go about solving it?

Answers on a postcard please......okay, anywhere underneath this message will do.

Thanks in advance, 'cos I know you lot out there are computer whizzes.

You can register with someone like hotmail or netscape who will give you a free email address and email services.

Bigfoot is not a standard email provider, it is soley a forwarding/filtering/distribution service. There is no way you can use it to send outgoing messages - believe me I've tried! As Nigel says, your best bet is to register with the likes of hotmail, yahoo etc. My personal experience is that www.excite.com seems to have one of the more efficient services. Unfortunately this is no consolation for those of us who's inconsiderate employer has banned such sites!

Don't know which email system you are using but, in case of outlook, you may go to
EXTRAS
ACCOUNTS
click on the email account you are using and than fill in the bigfoot address in the EMAIL ADDRESS field.
That gives the other side your bigfoot address and not any other identity....

Thanks y'all for your replies.

I guess I'm a bit stuffed as far as Bigfoot is concerned and will probably have a 'go' with Hotmail (I see by some of the E-mail addresses arond here that they must be anonymous.

Trouble is, do I then re-register here under Pontius@Hotmail and lose my esteemed 'rating'. No! Of course I don't, otherwise 'Pontious' and 'Pontius P' will think they came up with the 'handle' in the first place - leeches!!

But enough of that. Thanks again and I'm now going to Yahoo or something like that computer speak.

Chox aweigh,

Pontius

There are also other companies that offer web based e-mail that are also compatable with things like Outlook and Outlook express. Mailandnews does at www.mailandnews.co.uk or www.mailandnews.com

Also the latest version of Outlook (packaged with Explorer 5 will accept an http server so you can set up and run your hotmail account from your normal package and use a different 'send using.....' rather than the default user.

You should even be able to do that using slightly older Outlook Express packages.
What about registering your own domain name and redirecting from there?
