Post Napster alternatives? Anyone know?

Now that it is almost impossible to download anything decent off napster, has anyone come across any other sites that are equally good. I have tried mynapster, and that was just as pathetic; any suggestions?

I use 'Napigator' from www.napigator.com

It enables Napster to use alternative, non-Napster controlled servers.

There's any number of them available since it's an open standard. Many of them have more available files than Napster's own servers. The one I'm connected to at the moment has over 105,000 files / 6,200 Gb available.

The only catch is that it often takes me a number of attempts to find a server that's not declining connections due to capacity constraints. This started after Napster's legal woes.

Only one to use if you have unlimited access. www.audiogalaxy.com. Search and select and it downloads while your down the pub. Supports autoresume so none of those goddam Napster half downloads anymore. This this is addictive!!! Oh did I forget to say that they have more tracks than any other service (Napster heydey included)!
Get online and start burnin!!

Tried both of these today. iMESH has a note (a la Napster) saying it is complying with a court order to block access to copywrited songs - so I guess that will be out of action soon. Audiogalaxy seems to work fine though.

Try a little programme called "Gnotella".

It uses the Gnutella network where everyone seems to have flocked to post-Napster.

Certainly worth a try

Cool

Someone sent me this list recently. Haven't tried any of them so can't vouch for their authenticity.

If you're just looking for chart and pop music, try:
http://www.noisematrix.com/

For the more dance-oriented amongst you, go for:
http://www.homeofmusic.com
...but be prepared to be *incredibly* annoyed by the site design (right-clicks and keypresses disabled!)... if you can put up with it, all the latest "choons" are there..!

For the slightly more brave, IRC is the weapon of choice. Go grab a copy of mIRC from any popular download site, or straight from the horses mouth at:
http://www.mirc.com
There are plenty of MP3 and DivX (movie) sources on IRC, but each of the chat rooms has its' own idiosyncrasies, so I'd advise you to lurk for a while to become familiar with the system.

I've been using WinMX for the last week or two. Very impressive.

Several areas outshine Napster et al:

1. It connects to multiple servers instead of just one at a time

2. It can resume an interrupted download

3. You can configure the upload & download parameters

I don't like the wasted screen space due to its window layout. Completely unnecessary.

Have to admit that wasting screen space is a pet hate with me.

Very impressed with Aimster. Thanks Bob, I've tried just about everything over the last few months. I like the interface and resume facility on imesh, but there just aren't enough using it to give you much choice. On Aimster I've found some really obscure old tracks as well as all the new stuff. Just got Winmx to try now....will report back.

Gnutella is good, but you need an overlay like Bearshare. Kazaa is also pretty good.

The thing about them is that they are not limited to MP files. You can share all types of files.
