Unhappy Laptop Modems...

I run a Dell Inspiron 3600 laptop, with a Dacom Gold Card.

Like most people it seems, I have a few ISPs. When I go to the add new Connection bit of Windows 95, it cannot find the modem, even though I am using it all the time with other ISPs. I therefore have to change the phone number and password in my "Freeserve" connection every time I want to access any of the others.

Has anyone got a clue what the problem is - and also why does the COM port number change all the time?

Help please!!

Question

Have you tried asking Dell tech support or the modem manufacturer/distributor?

Dell are supposed to help in matters like that.
Good luck.

Tell us a bit more,
go to My Computer - Control Panel - Modems
a window will pop-up and show your your Modem installed.
Go to properties and have a look under the General TAB.
Please tell me what you see there.

The modem's there, but it COM4 - the various programs on my machine all run through COM3 - which is why it confuses me!
