Post DVD to TV

I have a dvd player on my laptop (Acer Travelmate) and I am able to watch DVDs and play CDs on it.

Is there any way I can hook it up to my TV (scart socket available, video in available on VCR) and watch DVDs in large screen.

Thanks.

Not tried the product but have a look here

I think one of the key things is TV-out support on the graphics side of things.
Try searching in Google for more results I used 'PC dvd and tv'

If your PC has a TV out connection (S-video or composite) all you need are the cables as above. If, however, your PC only has a standard external monitor connector you will need a converter.

A converter will take the standard SVGA/XGA output and convert it into a PAL otput suitable for a TV.

The following is a link toa site explaining the technical aspects:

The following link is to the Lektrpacks page of typical converters. You may, however, be able to find cheaper ones if you do a search:

I have a Sony laptop with Windows XP and DVD drive, and it was supplied with a TV out cable, but on connecting to my Sony TV all I get on the TV screen is the surrounding parts of the media player presentation, the actual film area of the TV screen is blacked out. The film is however fine on the laptop screen itself.

If anyone can understand my explanation and can explain how I get the film to be visible on the TV I would be grateful.

Cool

You may have to set the output setting to tv rather than the monitor. It'll be there somewhere.

I have a real magic hollywood plus card with tv out in my pc but it will only display on the tv or the monitor and not both at the same time. I guess there is a technical reason for it but I don't know what.

You just switch it in the software that plays/controls the DVD.

Hope that helps. <img src="wink.gif" border="0">

p.s.
Mind you the best way to play a DVD on a TV is with a dedicated DVD player that sits under your tv. (The one on the pc is for the kids room honest).

had exactly the same problem. Spanners is on the right way.
I explain now to you what you have to do using the ATI card, you did not mention which one you use, but it will be very similar.

Get the DVD ready to play on the TV with everything connected as mentioned befor, than right click on your dektop and go to properties.
The display properties panel comes up and select the tab SETTINGS. click on ADVANCED.
If you have installed the correct programs and the TV is attached, you will be able to scroll through a lot of hidden settings now, go to the DISPLAY tab and select the TELEVISION....and that was it actually....
It should revert to LCD panel as soon as you disconnect the TV, also, if the TV is not detected by the program, the check box will be grayed out.
There is also an ADJUSTMENT tab where you can select the display mode, like NTSB or PAL....

that should do it...

Thumbs up

Don't forget the sound. With an S-video hook-up you will need a separate lead for the sound. With a composite hook-up it'll be there in the three wire leads.
