Does anyone know of any software that would stop my laptop DVD rom from locking onto a specific region after 4 changes? My DVD collection is a mixture of R1 & 2. I daren't change from regions because I don't want to lock it. So at the moment I'm stuck on region 1.

A number of sites. These are two useful ones I used to research & then flash my DVD drive's firmware.

It's not just the software that enables region free, you also have to have a DVD ROM that is also not region locked, the only way to do that is to upgrade the firmware of the DVD ROM. Have a look here Firmware

Thanks for the help. I've downloaded the patch for my DVD rom (Toshiba SD-C2402), but I haven't got a clue on how to install it. The firmware site warns that improper flashing could knacker my drive. Is there an idiots guide to doing this, or should I leave well alone?

Rule 1. Turn every other program off.. .Rule 2. Once you start NEVER interrupt.. .Rule 3. Put any file names down on paper first, no way to go back to check.. .Rule 4. If indoubt, ask.. .Rule 5. If in further doubt, print out and ask an expert to do it for you. They might ask a $2-30 bucks, but it's worth it.
I always do my own, but I have a couple of spares at $60 USA sitting in a cupboard.

This was in a txt file that is part of a zip file from the Toshiba firmware patches
[quote]RPC1 firmware XY17 for the Toshiba SD-C2402 (patch by XVI)
This firmware must be used only if your original firmware revision start with a 1Yxx
To flash your drive
1. Extract the files in a directory of your choice. .2. Restart the computer in Real DOS mode. .3. Go to the directory where you extracted the files.. .4. Type vup99l XY17.hex (whichever your drive is). .5. When the flash is finish, shutdown your computer and restart.
Enjoy!. .
