Smile IE 5.5 cannot clear history !

Hi all, I have recently replaced my IE5 installation with 5.5 from a magazine disk.

Initially I just added 5.5 on top of 5 and the 5.01 service pack. But when the pages seemed a bit slow had the bright idea of using the add/remove program to uninstall them all, revert to Windows 98 initial set up then reinstall IE5.5.

The result seemed to improve viewing, and all is generally well. But I cannot understand why I am unable to clear my history using internet tools. I see the history dissapear when I press delete, but as soon as I reselect the history, then everything is still there. I can still delete the history in the Windows/history folder manually, and for now that will do.

I am expecting to upgrade to Windows ME over Xmas, so can I expect this minor problem to be fixed, or am I heading for that eternal dark dungeon known as 'Regedit' !!!

I'm gratefull for any advice you may have. Thanks.

Cool

Yeah, you must be using ME, in which case this function has moved...just go to Start/Settings/Task Bar and Start Menu/Advanced/Clear. As it says before you click, it will clear the recent document file and clear the IE 'memory'.

Hi BoeingBoy, the following is not really too relevant to your topic but none the less I hope you might be interested. I have not been doing too much Ppruneing in the last 2.5 weeks because three Fridays ago I brought home my new First Officer, fifteen month old Labrador, Sam and with my Dad and I we are getting on famously with Sam. We never had a dog before so it all new and exciting. The family in Glanmire, suburb or Cork had to give him up as the lady of the house wishes to return to work and they felt they could no longer give him the attention he deserves. I was going to get a Kerry Blue pup from an ex-RAF Nav but my cousin's friend, the dog obedience trainer advised against one for a new dog owner and so he was on the lookout for me and came up with Sam. If I had a scanner I would e-mail you a photo and with Christmas around the corner I just might get around to getting one! BTW, did you get a Psion 7 abroad and what do you think? Thank you, TTT.

I am using ie5.5 and also noticed that when I thought I'd cleared the History it was still there. I tried having History open and that worked OK, but trying it just now with History closed it worked as well!
Best of luck
Computers eh!

TTT Thanks for the mention of Sam. I wish you every success as we have been keeping them now for thirteen years. I have nicknamed our eldest,13, BOB. Not because that's his name, but because he has become a 'Beligerant Old Bugger'. They are the only dog's for me!

I did find a Psion 7 in the duty free at AMS. But it was a bit bigger than I expected, and with only 15mb did not shape up well against the HP720 Jornada, which at the same price has a lot more to offer. So I expect to but one of these after Xmas.

Cossack. Thanks for the reply. I too am finding that the history dissapears when the delete command is clicked. But as soon as the history is opened again the sites of today are still there, but not those of yesterday and before. Now I am even more puzzled? I guess this is an IE 5.5 glitch ?
