Post Am I being attacked ?

I recently upgraded Internet Explorer to version 5.5 with service pack 2. Since then I've noticed the hard drive is often busy at times I wouldn't expect.(ie no input). At the same time I've noticed the blue loading bar briefly flash across to full extent, and the external modem RD and SD leds flashing. Can anyone please explain what might be causing this?

DOn't worry, it's not a problem (usually)

If you watch this page you will see it happen when the advert banner at the top of the page changes.

Can be a bit of a so and so though if you use dial up line, with auto connect.

Finish browsing your favorite Pprune pages, close the modem connection but leave IE running with the page on display. Go and make a cup of coffee and you will find it has dialled up again (if you allow auto connect)

Good way to run up the phone bill!

Hi stickyb. Thanks for the info; yes it is happening when the advert banners change. Also interested to read your comments re. auto-connect, and phone bills. Thank heavens for unmetered ISPs.

Incidentally, our teenage daughters are also very adept at running up the phone bill. Any cures for that one ?

spekesoftly: get them married off as quickly as possible and shift the problem onto someone else.

If they are too young for marriage, pack them off to a boarding school that doesn't allow cell phones.

If neither of these suggestions are possible you could always leave home yourself !.
