Question techie mobile ISP connection question

Here's the scenario.

I'm going to be away from landlines for a couple of weeks and need to keep access to the net.

I've got a laptop with 56k modem, Win ME and an infrared port. I've also got a Nokia 8210 which has IR port but no internal modem, I'm going to be in the UK and cost isn't an issue as I have a freephone ISP dialup and 1-2-1 mobile which doesn't charge for access.

So the question is, can I stay online with the current set up or do I need a phone with internal modem. Upgrading the phone isn't a problem but I'm not going to get the wire link for the 8210 to the laptop as this is going to be a once a year situation, so I'll have to use IR data transfer whatever I go for.

If it is possible, the next question is what do I do to my browser settings to help the downloads go as quickly as possible as I assume the data transfer between the phone and laptop is going to be slow (9600, 18000??) I haven't got any requirements for fancy graphics etc as all the sites I need to visit are mainly text based and losing the graphics wont be too unbearable (although pprune is one of them and must be accessible for sanity's sake)

Any ideas would be appreciated.

The Nokia 8210 does have an internal modem, and connect at 9.6 kb/s via IR.

You can download all the drivers and set-up guides from Forum Nokia.

If you want to disable images in Internet Explorer, click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced. Under Multimedia you can uncheck Show Images.
