Yahoo Mail format
A friend needs to send me *.doc files from a Mac (ugh!) but each attachment arrives at *.dat. I can, of course, change the file suffix and download as *.doc, but
1) Why does this happen?
2) How can my friend change things so they come over as *.doc?
Using OE and WinXP

Not sure what program your friend is using but normally there is an option to send in either html or plain text format. Ask him to select plain text format and see if that makes a difference.

It is Yahoo Mail. The only options appear to be 'colour and graphics' or 'plain text' so I'll try those myself. Via Google I see others have similar and unresolved problems.
PS How long does Yahoo NEED for sending a mail?

I see adverse comments on yahoo mail on the internet, and indeed after 4 hours, 2 emails to external and 1 to a yahoo have not been delivered. As someone said in a parallel thread, they must be getting the service ready for M$
