Question Playstation PS1

Ok not really computer or internet, but a chip based device anyway.
My question is when I start some games on my PS1 it goes to the memory card / music menu and I cant get out of it , anyone know how to ?, or do a full reset on the box?

I had a similar thing, the laser in technical terms was knackered, had to fit a new one.

SLF 999,
You have just reminded me of a question I had intended to post a while back, on a similar theme. Please excuse me for jumping on your bandwagon.

Is it possible to get a NTSC PS1 to play PAL games by re-chipping it? My kids have one we bought when we lived in Hong Kong, but now we can't buy NTSC games for it in UK.

I'm not 100% but I'm pretty sure that if you connect the ps1 to your tv using the scart adapter then your ntsc game should display normally. At least it does the other way round I have pal ps1 and have an ntsc game that only works this way.
