HELP! If my landings were this unreliable I'd be pushing up daisies!
MAYDAY!
I am having real problems with Windows 98. It regularly fails to load properly and I have to turn off the pc and reboot. Then scandisk runs and reports an error with the FAT tables and is unable to complete. Windows then normally loads OK. I can't run scandisk from in windows as it just crashes and I again have to switch off and reboot.
I can't re-install windows either because that run scandisk before installing and it halts on the error!
The hard drive is only about 9 months old so there shouldn't be any bad sectors on it.
I ve downloaded several 'windows fix it' programs but none of them seem to find any errors.
Pls help before I take this heap of mjunk upto 20000 and let it try to autorotate!

If Tony's suggestion still does not work, can you get into Windows Safe Mode?
Select F8 on boot up, and when the screen gives you a menue, select Safe Mode.
Go, Start; Run; and type in "sfc" (without the quotes).
This will run System File Check. If you have any corrupted system files, it will ask you to repair them. Place your Win98 CD in the computer and follow the instructions. It will also ask you if you wish to back up the old files, recommended!
This is not a cure all, but it has helped me out on many similar occasions.
Hope it helps.
