Post What's happened to Napster?

Looks like the music companies are beginning to nobble Napster. No Beatles, Elvis, Who, Stones files available. Anyone know of any alternatives?

try imesh at www.imesh.com
i like it better than napster, because it enables you to pick up a download later if the other guy logs off. not as big as napster, but i find most of the things i want. u can also get shared video and other files there, not only audio files.

good luck

Hey, thanks for the tip PAFB!
I too, am beginning to notice some flaws in Napster as my knowlegde of the program gets better, and I am finally on the verge of understanding how to use it !!

Will check this site out that you recommend though, it sounds good.
I had been put onto a similar site called Crapster , and either I didn't look very hard, or else it seemed to be a lot of American stuff...blugrass etc... And also looked complicated to use, so I gave up

Well, I'll report back and let you know how I find imesh.

Cheers
GG

Tried Napster last night, still working OK. Agree with PAFB that imesh is a better system, just doesn't have the number of people using it yet to make it viable for getting the less popular songs. Let's hope its popularity increases.

Thumbs up

The Napster software can also be made to use alternative servers to the Napster-owned ones.

The software to do this is called 'Napigator' & enables Napster to use other Napster compatible servers.

A search on any of the search engines should find their site.

Its www.napigator.com and it works a dream, just tested a few band names like Rolling Stones and it found them all,

God Bless the Internet.

Unhappy

I am a regular user of Napster. It looks like they are beginning to block out certain tracks although the latest stuff is still available.

However, one ray of hope is that people are beginning to subtley re-name tracks within their collections by one letter such that a search will once again come good if it is made on parts of a track rather than the whole title.

Hopefully we are not scuppered yet! Don't understand why they can't relocate the servers to somewhere like Nigeria!
