Post Electronic Aviation Computers

Hello!!!. .Studying for my FAA ATP using my good old CR-2 Jeppesen computer (the wheel) when needed, and I think it would be appropriate to switch to an electronic one instead. Will not make me smarter, but my answers should be more accurate and shorter to figure out (I hope so anyway).

On Internet, they advertise a few products like the Techstar model by Jeppesen amongst others. Anybody for comments on that one, or any other models? Suggestions???. .Thanks,. .Cheers!!!

Not sure you can use electric computers in the exam. You might want to check that B4 you splash the cash.

OkeeDokey,. .At the end of the ads for the TechStar, it says "Approved for use on FAA knowledge examinations". And in the my reading material it mentions that the same flight computer that you use to solve the test questions in the book can be taken to the classroom for the written exam.. .So, I am going for it.. .Thanks,. .Cheers!!!

just double check with a call to the authorities...it may save you money and trouble.. .Remember that all the beautiful handluggage trolleys have also a tag stating :"Airline Cabin Baggage Approved!" and certainly there was never such an approval.... <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Thumbs up

Is a simple, one-step, elecronic calculator as accurate as a "whizz-wheel" where you do an iterative solution to a triangle of velocities?

I used to use a spreadsheet which was accurate enough up to a wind speed of 20kts but, above that, the errors became significant.

I ended up feeling that a Dalton or Jeppersen "computer" was better because you could refine the solution through repeatedly reducing the errors whereas with an electronic calculator, unless it was programmable, you got a simple trigonometric solution to an initial set of values.

Anyway, the Dalton and Jepperson "computers" keep going when it is Effing cold and the batteries in the electronic calculators have long since packed up.
