Trying to open a .cwk file in MS Office

I have been sent a .cwk attachment but am unable to open it in MS Office, does anyone know if it is possible to open it without buying expensive software please?

If you don't need to retain formatting, in Word try:

File -> Open -> In the "files of type" dropdown, choose "recover text from any file" and see where that gets you.

Then tell your friend it's time to move on from Claris/AppleWorks
