Post Tip of the day!

This probably should be on JB, but it's both fun and a computer issue, so what the hell: All you wanted to know about disk defrag! (There are a number of other "tips" on this site - the "graphic card update" is neat, for instance)

Cool

That's really useful and very timely 'cos I'm just about to do the defrag routine!

There's not nearly enough humour (of the right sort) here and this link gives us a welcome chance to smile. Thanks.

I have been tempted many times to re-program the damned thing with a lump hammer!

SanJose - sorry for the delay - I've only just got back online! I followed the instructions to the letter, but it didn't seem to work? I've had to borrow a friend's disk to make my machine work again. I think the problem was that I used an 80W speaker and I guess it was TOO strong, and I could not find that 'SVINTOŽ' stuff here in the UK, so I used my wife's BrilloŽ pads (but very gently). I guess you have tried the procedure, so if you have any comments I would be pleased to hear them. Is it possible to go back somehow to where I was before? I have seen something called 'RESTOREŽ' in the hardware shops. Will this help?

Sounds like you were far too gentle with the Brillo.

Cool

Followed the instructions to the letter and it seems to have worked a treat except that I've got some screws and a bit of springy metal left over.

Any suggestions about what I should do with them?

Oh,and there's half a dozen or so "1"s and "0"s if anyone should be short.

Not sure about the screws, but the bit of springy metal would probably make an ideal diving board for a doll's house swimming pool. You could store your leftover 1's and 0's in a cupboard. Never know when you might need to restore your data!
