Post W98 start menu: icons randomly rearrange

Can anyone help with something that's driving me mad? On the start menu page (Windows 98), the icons randomly rearrange themselves when I run the mouse over them (without clicking the mouse buttons). In fact, the whole system seems to be riddled with glitches at the moment.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry but I think your computor has caught a virus. I think that it's the 'magistr' type. You will need to upgrade you antivirus software.
Anyone else out there who could help??

This payload is repeated infinitely.

If the computer has been infected for two months, then on odd days the desktop icons are repositioned whenever the mouse pointer approaches, giving the impression that the icons are "running away" from the mouse:

Many thanks gas path and TR4A!

It was indeed magistr - but all sorted out now and updated anti-virus software in place. What a nuisance these things are.

Thanks again.
