Software for viewing and manipulating JPEGS

Hi,

Can anyone recommend an application which will allow me to manipulate JPEG images. Nothing too fancy basic features such as resize, change brightness and contrast, crop and print.

Ideally some freeware or shareware suiatble for Windows 95 from the net would be great.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Background: I was recently bought a Canon IXUS digital camera but the software supplied with it is not compatible with my system (must be Win 98 or above). I'm too poor to upgrade just now so I have installed the software at work to allow me to download the images. I then email myself the JPEG images to be manipulated and printed at home. Currently I use a shareware version of Paint Shop Pro which is quite old and the latest Paint Shop Pro free software is a trial version which lasts for only 30 days.

Well my Paint Shop Pro trial version is still going. Tells me I'm on day 1721 of my 30-day period and then fires up anyway

But a good little basic editor is IrfanView, and it's free. http://irfanview.tuwien.ac.at/english.htm

WinJPEG is very good (resize, save as different format, slideshow, etc.) ... but it's no longer free.

I have a free version from way back - the latest is $25. (It is free for 14days from the site above)

Take very good care of your IXUS - Canon are extremely difficult about honouring the warranty. I got stung for a large repair bill when the zoom packed up and they flatly refused to cover the fault.

Thanks very much for your replies. I will be trying out Irfanview and thumbsplus this weekend. I'll also try Paint Shop Pro for as long as it lets me.

No offence sanjosebaz but I'm going to stick to freebies for now.

Yeah - pity they decided to start charging for it. Still, my free version still works

ACDSee will let you use their program in a Sponsored mode. You must agree to log on and accept some advertising. It is an ecxellent program with the caveat that version 3.1 is the one being recomended. They have put out a 4.0 version and it is getting a fair bit of bad comment in www.dpreview.net . That is a great site for digital photography by the way.

PP: My Ixus played up a teeny bit, and John Lewis sorted it.

Surely it's the retailer who is liable, not Canon.
