When I Plug In a Camera I Need thre Default Downloader...

That would be Canon EOS Utilities but it is not shown as an option. Any suggestions as to how I can restore that as the default program when the camera is plugged in?

What operating system are you using?

If it's Windows 2000, XP or Vista, try this link for free driver downloads and (re)install the latest version. That should reset the defaults.

If it's a Mac O/S, this page may help.

When you plug your camera in - Are you presented with a list of programs to use? - If I understand you correctly, the program you wish to use isn't in the list.

Usually under the list is browse - So you can search through installed software and then select the program you want; and indeed opt to always open that program for this camera - thus becoming default.

Must admit that though I have the down loaders for the 3 cameras I use I rarely if ever use them.
Much prefer to drag & drop from the camera direct into whichever file I want the photos in.

Exactly the situation. Except I don't have a browse option to find the program I want.

I had a quick google - and found this..

you may need to reset the autoplay settings on your machine. Connect the device to your computer and then right click the drive icon in My Computer -> Properties -> Autoplay. Select the content type (music, videos, images etc) and then either choose the program if you see it or put a check in the box to prompt you for a respone. Then disconnect/reconnect the drive and you should either be asked again or it will open with the desired program.

worth a try!

I guess you didn't come back to check if the above worked!

I wouldn't bother connecting the Camera to the PC anyway; much better to use a card reader - Download the images to any file you want and open them with any Post Processing (PP) software you care to use.

Sorted!

I had the same problem as yourself. I have done a search but cannot find the thread.......)

I had to download the latest versions of the Canon software and it all worked after that i.e it came up in the list of programmes when first plugged in.
