Strange noises from external hard disk

Hi guys,

I just bought a new 500 GB external harddisk and it has been working perfectly until I dropped it from about a metre and now programs on it got slightly slower, accompanied by strange clicking noises inside, plus the laptop takes a hell lot of time to read it, if none at all.

Any suggestions? I still have the warranty with me, but i doubt theyll give me a new one should they notice it fell from somewhere
thanks

dropped it from about a metre
You're luck it works at all, the clicking noise will be the heads moving back and forth to try read data from the damaged area.

Best solution is replace it.

By all means try the warranty route, if it doesn't work, you have not lost anything extra, and you may end up with a free replacement.

Try and clear any data off it before handing it over on a warranty exchange......

In fact, copy anything important off it immediately - your time may be limited!
