0xc 0000142 - HELP!!!!!
I have a 4800 flatbed scanner which worked fine with Windows 98; I now have XP and tried to install the scanner driver with what looked initially like success but on restarting the computer the message "Application failed to initialise properly(0xc 0000142)" appeared and the scanner will not operate.
Is there a solution to this problem other than purchasing a new scanner?????
Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Well, for a start, what make is the scanner? Have you checked the manfr's website for WinXP drivers and XP compatibility advice?
Google is your friend if you get no joy on the Manfr's site - you might find a driver elsewhere.
It might be sufficiently "generic" for an alternative driver to function, but only if it is a re-badged device - and you know what the other versions are.

Just a thought, but you do have all the latest XP fixes installed, particularly SP2? I've recently looked at a similar abend for someone which turned out to be because of that.
When I upgraded to XP a while ago I had a specialist sound card that crashed XP when connected, and I couldn't get any fixes to the problem - the company that made it didn't release XP drivers and the existing ones simply woulen't work.
