convert a word doc. to excel

Hello all,
I have a bunch of documents that I have developed on microsoft word (aircraft specific maintenance checklists and such) and would like to convert them to excel, as it would make them much easier to use. Haven't been able to import them without making alot of work for myself. any suggestions?

What is it about the docs that would be better in XL?

Is copy and paste too simple or too messy?

I had Word and PDFS that had data on that i just coppied and pasted into XL. Good thing about XL is you can sort, search and best of all, make macros and stuff.
