Region free DVD player

I have recently purchased a 2nd hand Panasonic DVD player (RV62) that is locked to region 2. I see that one can buy handsets to 'unlock' the region, has anyone any experience of these gadgets?

There are innumerable websites dedicated to unlocking DVD players - they often use the machines own remote. I think these Panasonic models are 'difficult' and you may have to pay for a solution - it may have been cheaper to buy a new region-free model......

RV62 needs a handset that can be bought or rented. Rental cost is about the same as buying a region-free DVD player :-)

Thank you for the advice. I see the handsets for £10 (to buy, 8 x use.) What I wanted to know was the experiences that anybody has had with them.

For GBP 10, you're more than half way to something like a DVD-330 which is region-free and has 5.1-channel sound output.

Thank you for your advice, but it doesn't answer the question I asked. I have read the reviews on the inventive DVD330.

This site is useful, but it says there's no hack for the RV62

Buy the remote and try it. It works as advertised. I used one years back. You'll end up with a second-hand reasonably nice region-free DVD player costing only somewhat more than buying a modern region-free player.

Bushfiva,

Thanks for the information, all I wanted was to know if someone has used one these remotes successfully, without upsetting the rest of the firmware. I am happy now.

Green Granite, thanks for the effort.
