The "NF4" in the name means it's a Nvidia NForce4 chipset on the board, and this page confirms this. I have a different board with the same configuration (AMD Socket 939 & NForce4), so you'd need to get the NVidia Forceware drivers. Select "NForce", "NForce 4", then "NForce AMD" on the drivers page.
Did it come with a CD? It's a big download (43.1MB). With reasonably new drivers, I've never had problems with that network port - it just works.

Hmm! On the laptop now as it appears to have knocked out ALL my connectiins, wifi and RJ45, and is giving all sorts of 'unable' warnings during bootup. Cannot seem to change the Nvidia firewall settings either??? Working at it!!
EDIT: Uninstalled the 'Network Administrator' package and here I am with a connection via the rear RJ45 port! Thank you.

Sounds like the driver just ddn't kick in at that point, but good to hear its back. I stopped using the NVidia firewall, because I'm always running this PC behind a NAT router with no forwarded ports, so no other system on the internet can access it directly.

. See how I get on.
