Scanner Problems

I have had an HP Scanjet 7740c scanner for the past three or four years, giving no problems – until a month ago. When I scan a typed document, and save it as a black and white image in pdf format, it saves it as a large, typically 3-5 mb file, with a lot of squared, dark patterned imaging coming out from the edges of the final document towards the middle, leaving only the centre as good quality. Again, when I scan the same document in 20million colours mode, it is extremely under-exposed. Albeit with a pretty small .pdf file produced.

I’ve tried re-installing the drivers, to no avail. Anyone got any thoughts on what might be the problem- or is it a new scanner?

Thanks,

Tosh

Are all other USB devices OK?

What happens if you plug the scanner into a different USB port?
