Flickering screen/colour changes

Hi all,

My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv8230ca, 1.66 Ghz Centrino Duo Core, etc etc, 17" widescreen. It gets used as a desktop replacement, usually on external power and often on for days at a time.

In the last few days, the screen has been acting funny.

Problem 1.
Colour. There is a yellowish blotch in the header of every window, in the same relative position in the window regardless of whether maximised or not. These are OE, IE and Firefox windows. There is also a yellowish shadow down vertical lines in most windows, and some horizontal yellowing banding.

Problem 2.
Flickering screen. Mostly horizontal lines, also some box shapes. It is usually cured for a few seconds if I move the screen, but then comes back just as annoying as before.

HELP!!!

If it disappears when you move it it sounds as though you have a loose connection or a broken wire, do you have another monitor you can plug in to find out if it's the screen or the laptop?
