How Do Use IE instead of AOL for Updates

This a fairly simple question, but I can't seem to work it out for myself. Help please.
I use AOL BB which works really well, but I also sometimes use IE (eg for google) without bothering to open up and sign on with AOL. Fine.
But if I am using progs such as Ccleaner or I-tunes without signing on to AOL and press the updates button, they used to use non-AOL IE to access the internet, but now, for some reason, as soon as I press the update button, AOL opens up and I have to sign on before it will connect and run the update.
How do I restore the previous state of affairs?
Cheers all

Has AOL set itself up as your default internet program? Clicking on updates etc from stand alone programs usually open whatever that has been set as the default. Does AOL start up if you click onto a link from an email? This will open the default.
Hope you understand my drivel I'm not too good at explaining things but it might give you a clue as to what is happening.

Mr G - thanks for taking the time to reply.

Yes, I guess AOL has set itself as the default. How do I change it?

Cheers,

Open the one you want as the default browser, then go <tools-internet options>, click on the programs tab, near the bottom there's a section labelled "default web browser", click the button "make default" then tick the box that says "tell me if internet explorer is not the default browser" click "apply" then "ok"

Job done.
