Rechargeable batteries.

Reading the post on PDAs and flat batteries, wanted to pick the brains of you aeroplane drivers.

I have a feeling that there is an a local pressure variable in rechargeable batteries. If I fly (slf) I can be almost certain that any battery that was fully charged at departure will be partly depleted upon arrival.

Any of you noticed this? This applies to carry on (in the good old days) as well as hold luggage. Same thing if I drive up to a ski resort.

To tie this up with a fact, Maglite tell one not to use rechargeables in their torches. Not, apparently due to the 1.2V limit, but because the torch seals are stressed by the out-gassing.

Ladies and Gents, your experiences please.

I never bother taking a charger for my phone unless I am away for over a week. Never had a problem with the battery. Never had problem with battery in a hand held GPS in a light aircraft which gets above standard airline cabin pressure. What I have noticed is that if the phone/PDA is tightly packed it can 'turn itself on', perhaps that is what is happening?
